Has anyone decided to go back to 7 or 8.1?

Well, W7 is not "crippled" on modern HW, works just (or almost) fine on my most modern computer. But.... in my case it's in very simplified shape, just enough to run games. Except that hasn't had any updates short of drivers (same ones as on W10) since Sp1. Having it in multiboot with W10 on this same machine gives me possibility to directly compare both OSs.
W10 on the other hand has many advantages over it and hence it's used as main OS (also have Linux Mint) so another comparison can be made. There's even more, also run W10 on another PC and it's insider version, no problems worth speaking about on it either. This, main PC is right now with FCU but it's awaiting next insider version.
Yes, there are some minor problems and bugs but they are mostly fixed with next update.
In my very long experience with computer which include many ore than just PCs, I haven't seen an OS with which so many changes and customizing could be done but even those have some limits. It's my firm belief that most problems come with users meddling too much with OS operation, skipping updates for OS and drivers and also not taking care of their HW.

Hi there, Pirx. Welcome to Windows TenForums.

While I respect your opinion, nothing could be further from the truth. It's not that MS has lost quality control. Rather it has gone through a great transformation period to keep up with industry trends. If you purchased a touch device such as a phone or a tablet, then you were part of forming that trend. MS had to change or die off.

It's your choice to change over to Apple, of course, but you'll need a lot of money to spend on what I call over-priced costume jewelry. Devices are Apple's main revenue. It shows when the new iPhone 8 or X is $1k. Plus then you'll spend more on accessories for it. Compare Windows OEM devices to that and you get more bang for your buck with Windows devices.

I've conversed with many a Mac user crossing over to Windows because it's more like iOS. I'm sure you'll see the same.

Lastly > "confused ramblings of random strangers on the internet, aka the "Windows Insider Program"? Quite the insult to many of us long-time Windows users here that are in the program. Proud to be a fanboy, BTW.

Go. Go spend your money on the high-priced jewelry. Please report back when you have problems or at least link us to a Mac help forum that you're going to have to use so we can stay informed of your progress.

Good day and good luck to you. :)

Wow I'm really glad to see people discussing about this.

See my gaming rig has 10 on it and I have been fine with it mostly, but I too have a love and hate relationship with it too. The DCOM errors as well as sometimes programs not working correctly after major update.

I have been noticing people doing clean installs on major updates for 10 which does make some sense, yet its annoying since Microsoft seems to like to overhaul the OS every six months now which is getting a little tiring. I wish they would fix 10 more, before adding more updates and potentially breaking something.

Only major releases like AU and CU have relatively large changes so it's only once a year. Biannual ones are more of corrections and other fixes like security related ones. Some people like me for instance, crave for even more and are enrolled in Insiders program. If you look around this forum, we get bored even few days after a new insider build is released.

Yep, it does, doesn't it. Unfortunately, some of us use computers as tools to assist them with the work they do for a living, and have no interest nor time toying around with them.

As an aside, I am stunned at those stories of people doing clean installs as a matter of course. With the kind of software environment I need, setting up a machine from scratch, installing and configuring all the pieces of software I need and use on a daily basis requires a very significant investment of time. There is absolutely no way for me to justify that kind of effort, none at all.
Sure, if all you do is play games and browse the web, and perhaps fire up good-old MS Word from time to time you don't care. Like I said, some of us have slightly more complex work environments than that.

I dumped Windows 7 when 8 came out came out and never looked back. Don't plan on doing so now. Don't plan on going back to 8. Happy with this latest version of 10.
    That's about it.

I moved to 8 as soon as first test versions became available. After a week or so I decided 7 is not needed anymore. Stayed in 8 & 8.1 until first W10 Tech Preview was released, upgraded all machines to Windows 10 October 1st 2014. Since that I've only run 7, 8 & 8.1 on virtual machines to be able to still reply to posts on our sister sites SevenForums.com and EightForums.com, other than that I'm only running Windows 10.

No reason to go back, W10 being a well working OS.

On another note, it's interesting to see (based on reading issue threads) how those mostly complaining about W10 are those tinkering / tweaking it most. Quite a many issues could be prevented simply by letting W10 do its job without any third party optimizers / tweakers / cleaners.

What are you expecting? That each and every new build is completely new with bunch of new features, new GUI, new everything?

Personally, I like the way Microsoft is doing it: not too much new. Because they need to remain sure that a new build will work as well as possible, the builds contain not too much changes. Step by step.

My thoughts exactly - there's quite enough flexibility to customise the look and feel within settings/control panel/start menu options to personalise this machine to my tastes. Step outside Microsoft's boundaries and something's going to break - maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but a few major updates later a long-forgotten 'tweak' is going to break the system.

Anyway, that's my explanation for trouble-free consecutive upgrades of this machine from OEM Win7 through 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703 and now 1709.

Honestly your posts seem more antagonistic than constructive. This to me sums up your attitude....

And, yes, "something is not working correctly". Duh. It's many things, actually, with WinX.
If Windows is so disdainful, and Macs better suited for your "more complex work environments", why are you here... other than to be antagonistic?

Part of the problem is you have too many so-called experts that swear by these tweaks of yesteryear. Couple that with many users who have no idea how said tweak may affect their systems; they just do it because Johnny on the internet said so. Never mind Johnny is still running XP while others are on newer OS's.
