The computer is approximately 10 years old.
Has the HD been replaced or is it the original?
Had you had any problems with the drive?
chkdsk on boot, paging errors, bad blocks, etc.
Had you checked the drive with any of these tests: SMART, short, or long generic?
    Never ran SMART before

Is the drive the original drive?
    Were there any drive problems?
chkdsk on boot, paging error, retired block, bad blocks, etc?

Drive is original. Bootscan revealed nothing unusual. Still waiting for my USB to format

bootscan? chkdsk was run automatically by windows or manually by you?

The expected life span for a HD sold today is approximately 3 - 5 years.
See the graph in this link.
With the drive in the Toshiba built 10 years ago it is likely that there are problems with the drive.
So if this repair works you will need to immediately back up the files and or make an image of the drive.
With the prior steps failing I suspect that this is drive failure.
We will give the repair a go.
If that fails there are 2 other options, one to rescue the disk and the other to copy the files.

Sorry, not bootscan. Scan disk. I'm going to wait for the USB drive to complete it's download. I expect to give it a try tomorrow morning. Should that fail, we will have to proceed with another plan.

As stated earlier in this thread, the reason for this failure was the auto update by WIndows 10 in May. This update somehow deleted or replaced the drivers, making them incompatable with my current computer. I do have a driver update disk, but am unable to run it. So I am resorting to the USB flashdrive to see if this works. It is my belief that these drivers are the culprit of the problem, not just an old HD.

    These are some options:
    1) attempt registry repair using command prompt
    2) boot rescue > image drive if possible or move to next step
    3) Find another computer that has a secondary bay > copy important files > then test the drive
    4) Find an external hard drive enclosure > copy important files > clean install windows 10 > check drive

Find some flash drives that you can format.
Save 1 for the bootable rescue.

This is for the windows 10 iso:
Download Windows 10 ISO File Installation Upgrade Tutorials
    Download Windows 10

These are parts of the repairs that you had attempted: boot configuration data/master boot record/boot sector/sfc
How to Rebuild the BCD in Windows [10 to 20 Minutes]

Sfc Command Examples and Switches (System File Checker)

This has also failed. I may end up taking the drive out and connecting it to my Chrome Book, copying the files I need, then re-installing Windows clean on the old one. I'm just running out of options
