Thanks for the clarification @Bree. Let's hope there will be a configurable choice soon without having to dig into the registry ...
Hey everyone. :)
I'm working on a Shut down context menu to help make it easier to workaround this new shut down behavior. Please take a look at it, and make any suggestions you may have for the context menu. Once everyone is happy with it, I'll create a new tutorial for it and another for restart.
For example: position (top, middle, bottom), wording, or different commands

Looks like a useful addition. A workaround is a better approach than a registry hack for the Start Menu Power button behaviour. Such a 'fix' (if one could be found) may get in the way of further changes (or a return to 'the old ways') that MS may make (I'm sure they're getting a lot of feedback on this :))
Looks like it would be very useful even if Microsoft makes this "enhancement" optional.
Has anybody determined if this new behavior is the same for both local and Microsoft accounts? If that has already been addressed in this (long) thread I missed it. I would love to hear it applies only to Microsoft accounts.
@Brink, do you think this would help the beeping at startup on my mom’s PC? The problem is that the computer is used to shutting down right away at when the sign out button and shutdown button is pushed. Now, with the new update, Microsoft has added Shutting Down and Please Wait screens at shutdown and startup.
Hello @Jesse Williams, :)
As a test, you could create a shortcut using the command below to force Windows to close all apps and shutdown immediately when used to see how it works for you.
shutdown /s /f /t 0
