Default Folder View?
Is there a way to globally change the Default Folder View? I've used Folder Options | View | Apply to Folders a few times, but it only seems to stick on folders I've opened.

Hello Nigel,
You can use the same method in the tutorial below in Windows 10 to set and apply a folder view to all folders. :)
Folder Template - Set Default for All Folders in Windows 8
Thanks, but I don't really want to disable Automatic Folder Type Discovery, just use large icons rather than list.
That's ok.
If you like, you could also use the method below to apply that setting to all folders with the same folder template. You would just need to repeat it in folders that each have a different folder template. Your user folders in This PC would be good for this.
Folder View - in Windows 8
I did this and it works great...but... It defaults to sorting by Date Modified... I'd like it to default sorting by Name. I know how to make this change and apply it to all folders, but it doesn't get applied to _newly created_ folders, which is what I'm trying to accomplish.
I have looked extensively for documentation on this registry key and what all of the available switches might be, but I can't find anything other than reposts of this line:
REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell" /V FolderType /T REG_SZ /D NotSpecified /F
Is there any more information you can offer on this topic?
Thanks,
Eric
Hello Eric, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
Using the tutorial below to set a default view how you like for all folders should work for you instead.
Folder View - Set a Default for all Folders in Windows 8
Apparently it doesn't seem to work properly with libraries. There also isn't an option to apply to all in libraries.
