desktop icons crashed

    desktop icons crashed


    something, i dont know what caused several programs icons on desktop to stop working. i had to either reinstall said programs and or replace icons from program folders. what could of caused the problem? some shortcuts to these programs were saved on both pc and flash drive

    Perform a virus/malware scan to check if your computer is infected with any malicious software or not.

    Maybe your user account is corrupted create new user account and let us know if issue resolves at new user account.

    Open the Command Prompt as a administrator and type following command:

    Code:
    Assoc  .lnk=lnkfile

    you mean the shortcuts stopped working? did you look in the properties for said shortcuts and see what location they were pointing to? was it corrrect?

    cheers mates. i scanned, nothing found. i vaguely remember what the message i got when clicked on defunct shortcut -but i think it said it couldnt find the targeted file/folder..for now, everything is back where it should be. but its odd it occured while i was running my cleaning program as i normally would . i dont want to think the cleaning program, glarysoft utilities had anything to do with said shortcuts not working. -want to continue using said cleaning program.

    Its glarysoft utilities causing the problem you should not use it.

    unfortunately that program is paid version. i will keep it until i find a better "pro" version
