Downloading videos from device to external PC

Thinking of building a simple media server/streaming PC cause laptop is starting to get full. Im thinking of using Plex, but im trying to look for a method of being able to download an episode or whatever from any device in the house, and point the location to the streaming pc HDD. ie start a new episode download on my laptop but have it saved onto the streaming PC hard drive. So far i haven't been able to find any information on a method like this online.

Instead of building a streaming PC. You probably want something like this:
D-Link Products - DNS-320 - ShareCenter 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure, (2) 3.5" Bays, SATA, RAID 0/1, Gigabit Ethernet Port, USB Print Server
Which you can store all type of files and stream it to your PC/Smart TV/Android Device etc...
