Sleep Mode doesn't work right nor does it wake up.

Came across my first major problem. When I try to go into sleep mode (either through the Start menu or pressing the power button), the hard drive light blinks for a second then the screen goes black. BUT... my power light stays on (should be blinking) and pressing it again, the mouse button... nor any key press on the keyboard will wake it up. I had to hard shutdown (holding the power key down for like 5 seconds) for the light go off and had to keep rebooting from scratch.

That's a major pain since waking up out of sleep mode is normally much faster and convenient. To make things worse.... it seems like 10 takes longer to boot up from scratch than 8.1 did. I've yet to see if SHUTDOWN works properly or not. Not a happy camper on the sleep mode issue. It worked under 8.1 just fine. Anybody else?!?

EDIT: Shutdown goes through a longer process, but ends the same as sleep does...... The power light stays on.

    I'm using an HP Envy w/ i7-4510u CPU / 8GB RAM / 4GB Nvidia GTX 850M / 1TB drive

EDIT#2: Now SLEEP and SHUTDOWN appear to be working properly and Windows 10's boot up times are as fast or faster than 8.1 now. It's like a car and trying to clear out the lines of bad fuel before it runs right. Just some weird hiccups.

EDIT#3.... Now it's doing it again!

Identical issues here. Also an HP Envy. Also sleep/hibernate works sometimes and not others.

This will be a deal breaker for me if I can't turn off my computer and turn it back on with my status still intact. I'll (gulp) be forced to return to 8.1

Will post here if I figure out a solution

I'd recommend completely uninstalling your graphics drivers with DDU and reinstalling them.

You may actually be on to something here. First, created a restore point, then I used DDU to uninstall my NVidia driver (now using the built in Intel graphics) . So far after a couple hours I've been able to go in & out of sleep/hibernate with zero problems.

Am not a gamer so I've discovered that my fancy graphics card does me little good anyway- still I'll turn it back on sometime. Will report back here if I have further problems, otherwise consider me grateful...

I am considering the driver removal and reinstall. I'm worried 10 will try to force an update of an older, problem free driver. I do need my Nvidia driver cuz I do play games. I paid $150 extra for the GTX 850M GPU and I'm not gonna let it sit idle. I may just put up with cold boot ups for now and await a fix. It's a tough call for me.

Woke up this morning to find windows kindly rebooted and reinstalled my GTX850M driver without asking. Sleep problem has returned-once again strongly suggesting this is indeed the problem.

I wonder how fracking4oil knew about this...

Well there had been a heads up in the days leading up to 10's launch that Nvidia users were likely to have issues with dual monitors setups, SLI, crashes and boot up issues. No one mentioned sleep and shutdown issues. They did mention 10 forcing driver updates, so I wasn't shocked your computer got it's hand forced. That's why I was leaning towards just leaving things as is until fixes are devised and things are sorted out.

If you noticed, win 10's Nvidia driver is a higher/newer driver version than is available even on Nvidia's website. For now....we just wait.

At least our computers work fine otherwise. Some others have it worse than us. It could have been worse...knock on wood.

    ANotehr issue with graphics driver

I suspected that a driver had somehow gotten corrupted and when Win reinstalled a driver, it installed the one I had on the system because it was the 'correct' one so my problem continued to reocur.
I downloaded the proper driver from the maker and installed it and everything worked great.

I have an HP Envy purchased this summer running Windows 10, and started having this problem a few weeks ago. The only way I could get the computer to come back on after sleep was to force power down. I did everything recommended in these threads, replaced the Intel HD Graphics driver, etc. Maybe some of this was necessary, but it wasn't sufficient. The problem persisted. I was dreading having to spend hours on the line with HP to have them tell me to restore factory settings, etc. Then I had a mind flash. I unplugged the external hard drive that I have been leaving plugged into my laptop. Instantly the problem disappeared. Sleep works perfectly as before. Hallelujah!

New member here. I have the no-wake-up problem with my HP P6202f desktop after updating to Win 10. Rather I should say, after the first auto-update after upgrading to Win 10. I have read all the comments above with interest, but I guess I can't get beyond how do I perform any of the recommended steps on a computer with no display? I must be missing something.

Okay, found something that worked. I swapped out a number of USB devices no longer needed (camera, etc.) and substituted non-USB keyboard and mouse for USB ones. Then I unplugged the whole computer and left it sit for an hour. Then plugged back in and powered-up. Got display! I have set power management to not allow hibernate or hybrid sleep.
