Windows 10 does not boot after forced shutdown

Hi,

My HP Pavilion G6 laptop is no more booting into Windows 10 after I did a forced shutdown 3 days back when the system was hung. I am not sure if some Windows 10 update was running in the background when I forced a shutdown.

Till now I have tried the following;
- Used F2 to get into system diagnostics and run 'memory test' and 'hard disk test'. Both have passed.
- Got into BIOS using F10 and checked all BIOS settings and boot options in BIOS are correct.
- Tried to boot from Windows 10 installation disk to run recovery, however it never boots from the DVD. It gives the error shown in the attachment. (some how I am not able to upload any attachments)
- Used Esc to get into the systems recovery option. The Windows 10 logo comes up with the waiting circle going round and round showing its doing something. However, even after 12 hrs I did not find any change and the system is stuck in the same same Windows logo screen.
- I have done a long power-down as suggested in one of the posts in this forum (holding down power button for more than 30 secs) and then trying to boot. This too did not help.

Every time it come back into the same Windows 10 logo screen and stays in that state for eternity.

Any help in getting the system to boot from DVD/re-installation of Windows 10 will of great help.

Thanks for your response. I have updated the details on 'systems specs'. Some details like the Windows 10 build number I cannot update now since my laptop is not booting.

Thanks for sharing the Windows 10 installation procedure using USB stick. I will try the same.

No, I have not seen this option in troubleshooting options. However, in boot options in asked if I want to boot from UEFI boot.

No, I do not have a recent backup of the hard disk. My hard disk is partitioned though and no data is present in C drive. I hope only C drive will be wiped during re-installation of Windows 10 or should I try making a backup after trying to boot from a Ubuntu live DVD?

Initially, the boot options included cd/dvd, hard drive, network, etc. However, after a few failed trials to boot from dvd, the cd/dvd option is also not showing now! I need to check which other options it had shown.

No, the power cord and battery were not removed. I will try that in evening today.

On getting this message I had opened the laptop, disconnected and reconnected the hard disk. After this the hard disk test had passed.

Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes.

This may take many hours so plan to run it overnight.

HP has not provided any official driver support for Windows 10 installation on HP Pavilion G6 2005AX series laptops.

It is a pre August 2013 model and comes under un-tested models with Windows 10.

Although drive support is not there, I have been running Windows 10 smoothly on this laptop since the launch of Windows 10 and have never faced any issues.

Yesterday I tried the log power down after disconnecting battery and power supply. After when I tried to boot into the system recovery it showed me a screen stating that there is a hard disk failure. (I have got a screenshot which is currently not handy, will be uploading later). Subsequently I ran UEFI based Memory test and Hard disk tests... Both Failed! Surprising both these tests had passed a day earlier.

Next I tried booting from a Ubuntu live DVD. It threw some errors but it was able to boot from the live DVD.
I am not able to understand what might be the issue... hard disk failure, memory failure or just some system partition corruption by some malware?

The reason for booting from non-windows is to check the hardware.
Being able to boot using Ubuntu supports the integrity of the hardware and problems with the windows bootable partition.
Running Memtest86+ version 5.01 will be useful in checking the integrity of the RAM / DIMM / Motherboard.

Please make sure that it is run for at least 8 passes.
The more the passes the better as it sometimes has taken passes in the 20's to find malfunctioning RAM.
Running the Memtest86+ version 5.01 for fewer than 8 passes has a significant number of false negatives.
A false negative is a pass test result when there is malfunctioning RAM.
Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing is not done by time but by passes.
If you estimate the time it takes approximately 1 -2 hours / GB of RAM.
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
If there are multiple RAM modules you will then remove all modules except for 1 RAM module and test each module for 8 passes in the same DIM to see which RAM module is malfunctioning.
If the RAM modules fail when tested simultaneously and pass when tested 1 at a time you will then need to test the DIMM / Motherboard. This is done by moving the RAM module to another DIMM and testing for 8 or more passes.

I was some not able to create a bootable usb with Memtest86+. Somehow it did not list the usb stick that was connected to the PC i was using. So i resorted to running so tests using the ubuntu live dvd. I ran "Disk Utility" there to get the status of hard disk. Here is the screenshot after running test.
