Is there any way to make all text thicker/bolder...

... without increasing font size. I just got a big 4k monitor and I have to set the text to stupidly big to get the text a comfortable thickness. I've been looking around for a solution but I can't access "display" in the control panel which seems to be it. It's just not there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you

Hi and welcome to TenForum, there is a way to do it allso in the Creators version, even if it's a little cumbersome:

Thanks but that's not really what I'm looking for. I want to change the text thickness across all my apps and this method seems like it could cause problems in the future if it overrides accessible windows settings.

Other than what Gordon7 has suggested I don't think there is much you can do.

These options control text rendered by Windows itself. Applications can override some of these settings if they wish but few do. But text rendered within applications is another matter. There are defaults provided by Windows but I am not aware of any user control over this. Changing character width cannot be changed independently of other things such as character spacing if text is to remain readable. That would have compatibility implications. And then many applications don't use the defaults at all but specify their own font sizes, and other things. You have no control over that.

You can specify DPI but beyond that text rendering is controlled by the individual applications, not the user. And they have many options available.

Maybe at some point Windows will provide for the control you want but there would be some serious technical issues to be solved first.

Thanks for that LMiller7. Maybe someone will post here in the future if things change.

Check out: Advanced System Font Changer - WinTools.Info

Here're some screenshots of what the app does: Advanced System Font Changer - Font Settings

*I use this app, because it's really useful. I attached a picture of my settings that I use.

Interesting but only changes system font settings. There is a great deal of text in a typical application that will be unaffected.

I'm not familiar with 4k monitors, but from the reviews I've read there's a major problem there.
Anyway what is the default font size being used?
Are you talking about the font sizes of whatever appears on the desktop icons etc. and/or documents, such as Word, Excel ???.
Can you post a screenshot of the issue and another one with what you'd like see?
--- In other words, what are you getting and what is it you want?
Those might be ridiculous questions but it looks to me like there's a ridiculous situation for everyone else also who buys one of those monitors.
How about contacting the manufacturer to get a straight answer from them?
--- What's the value of a 4k monitor if there are actual font size problems?
On trying to access display in the control panel, go into settings instead.

I have a similar, although slightly different, issue...and I appreciate your suggestions of posting comparitive screenshots. Here is a shot of your post from my Primary computer:

Is there any way to make all text thicker/bolder...-better-test-display-primary.jpg

And here is roughly the same shot of your post from my Backup computer:

Is there any way to make all text thicker/bolder...-better-text-display-backup.jpg

As you can see, the Backup image shows much sharper fonts, slightly bolder, than the washed out decaying fonts displayed on my Primary machine. My goal is to get the Backup computer's quality display on my Primary computer.

I welcome all suggestions. Thank you!

@Florida Rene - Hey, go to start menu - search and write " Adjust Clear Type " (without " ") - then see screenshot:

    That should solved your problem.
