Why won't my "My Documents Directory" in Windows 7 transfer to the start menu ? At the moment I'm running off a disk. This what I used to have to do back in the old DOS days. I guess there's been no Improvement since then.

I don't understand what you mean when you say they won't transfer to the Start Menu.
Windows 10 brought back the backup and restore process from Windows 7.

Rather than use the Image backup contained within Windows I would recommend Macrium Reflect and its boot disk.

Actually Macrium can serve both purposes.
Of course there is also straight old copy and paste to an external drive, Windows Robocopy and a slew of tools on the market.
Windows 10 also has a facility called "File History" ( not sure I would call it a backup, more a copy. )

Thanks for the reply, Ken. Trying to work with Windows 10 is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer...it feels good when you quit. I've been trying to transfer my Windows 7 Documents Directory to this W10 piece of crap. If given up because I can't find a location where all the folders in W7 can be stored and accessed from a single location. Right now I'm running off the disks which I used to back up all the data I had stored in in W7 "Documents." In fact, I also have a set of disks on which I store all my application data. (Sign in protocols, activation codes, purchase data, etc.) None of these will transfer to the start-up menu in 10. This reminds me of the old DOS O/S which required a different 5 1/2 " floppy for every app, and where you had to type in the name of the path to open access to the data. The only difference was that the DOS system was much simpler to run than this garbage which is like those old detective games wherein you got to the end only to find out you had missed a clue and had to start over. If I wanted something that hides clues toward a resolution I'd have purchased one. It would be simpler than trying to guess how this Windows 10 garbage functions. The clown who designed this piece of junk should design one more and drop dead.
It's really hard trying to guess what you want to do and why you're having difficulty.
Are you trying to transfer data from a Win 7 installation to a Win 10 one?
Or have you upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10?
I'm going to assume you're talking about data.
First recommendation for personal data is don't put it on your Windows partition.
So you can
- use your own folder on whichever disk or partition you wish
- relocate the default Documents, Videos etc folders and use those (relocation is covered by a tutorial here)
I have specified that for certain programs I have installed (from the internet, not the Store) that their data is held on another drive.
The point of doing so is that this data is not affected if I have to perform maintenance on Windows 10 which would affect data if on C:
Perhaps you could give a specific example of the difficulty you feel you are experiencing.

Manipulating the start menu in Win 10 is especially frustrating. Coming from Win 7, I'd recommend you use Classic Shell start menu (free) - it's great, supports drag 'n drop properly and behaves as you'd expect. It's search and appearance are configurable.
You can still use Win 10's menu with it installed.
I'm wondering.. @Powell Lucas may be referring to the lack of the Easy Transfer Wizard that was available in Windows 7, but is not available in Windows 10?
In Windows 10 you do have to do it manually. Just go to your old documents folder under Users on the Windows 7 drive and copy over the documents, downloads, etc. to the same folders under your User folder in Windows 10.
And if you really want to get fancy - FreeFileSync is a great program to transfer over large numbers of files:

But you do have to still set up the folders to be copied over manually.
Thanks for the reply LCommander. You've confirmed my conclusions. Windows 10 is just the DOS O/S with a fancy GUI. Fortunately, I learned a long time ago to back up everything . My "Documents" Directory is backed up on DVD-RWs. My access codes, dates of purchase, and renewal dates for all my non-Microsoft software is backed up on another set of disks. I can function quite well using these disks. In addition everything is backed up on an external hard drive. The latter only gets used in a pinch since it takes forever to reinstall everything. But, at least, with these back-ups I can get around the Windows 10 crappy O/S and Microsoft can osculate upon my Gluteus Maximus.
So you are too lazy to copy them into your My Documents folder? If you upgrade from Windows 7 or 8, all your videos, music, documents, downloads, etc. transfer over automatically. If you do a clean install, and you want to import all your data, all you have to do is copy it into the same folders under your user name in Windows 10.
So I think we are back to not knowing what the heck you are talking about. We are all accessing our data from the folders under our user names - and from the library shortcuts that point to those folders under our user names. Unless, as stated earlier, you are just too lazy to copy the files and expect MS to create a wizard to do it for you.
And, point of correction - Windows Millennium Edition (ME) released in 2000 was the last DOS based version of Windows.
