From what I understand, it isn't good practice to run a laptop with the battery plugged in all of the time.
When the battery warning shows up, plug the AC power back in and let it charge back up to 100%.
It doesn't have to be an exact process every single time but the idea is to let the battery cycle itself for best performance.
There's also a way to calibrate the battery but I haven't included that process on my laptop.

You also found out the battery has been changed 2 times.
If you purchase a replacement battery, make sure it's the correct one for your laptop.
Check the battery compartment for the correct description/specifications of what's needed.
