There is another trick to force the Windows 10 Update instead of waiting for your machine to be targeted for days, weeks, months checking Windows update.
This was posted in a couple of other threads by fellow member Azcamm and he/she deserves full credit for the trick.
I just tried this method on the HP Desktop and the Windows 10 download started instantly, now I have to restart to begin installation.Originally Posted by Azcamm For people not yet getting the upgrade follow this guide it worked for my windows 8.1 laptop here in the UK.
How to Force Download Windows 10 for PC or Tablet
I updated my desktop computer (under system specs) from 8.1 and everything works like a charm, even olde games. I love it.
I tried on my netbook (ATOM N455, 2GB DDR3, 300GB HD), and everything works, all drivers detected automatically, metro apps working, but it performs awful, using 20% CPU to simply move the mouse, all animations lag a lot, takes seconds to open and draw a window, and the generic SATA driver constantly throws timeout errors with micro-freezes (Intel RST doesn't install on 10). Reverted back to 7.
My father's laptop is an ancient one that doesn't support newer than Vista (it has XP).

There is no need to force anything, just use the update tool - Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums
@z3r010 I just wanted to see if this method would work to receive the update directly through WU immediately instead of waiting but also to validate it.
I am happy to report the upgrade from 8.1 to 10 was successful & now I will use the "media creation tool" to create USB installation media for a clean install later.
Yeah, so my upgrade from 10240 went smoothly. Haven't noticed any instabilities or other issues. Everything seems the same as it was.
The upgrade used about 13GB of additional space to complete, before a manual clean-up, so take that into account if you're doing it on a small partition.
The system is activated and version number is the same: 10240.
I originally started off, a couple of weeks ago, from a clean install of 10162, upgraded to 10240 then to this release.
I'll wait until I know what's what before doing a clean install on this and my other systems.
