Have been using windows 10 for a few months and the other day had this update from windows that changed all my
preferred settings, especially my preferred view type for my mp3 music folders and I cannot select apply changes in view in folder options, it's just gray not selectable like i could before the update or upgrade. any help would be appreciated thank you.
You're not doing a search within the folder before going to go to the location to press that button, right?

In addition, be sure that you open Folder Options from the ribbon of the opened folder window you want to apply from. If you open Folder Options separately from the Control Panel or other location instead, then the "Apply to Folders" button will be grayed out.

I hope Brink's tutorial helps you set your folder views up again. When that is done then you could usefully back them up so that you can quickly restore them if a future Windows update changes them again - see Backup and restore Default folder views - Forum article

Thanks so much for previous help with this post but despite what instructions were given especially by Brink's tutorial I can't set folders to my preferred view. All the folders which are in the C drive are now details view and not medium sized icons which I prefer. Also with Brinks tutorial which is quite clear when he says click on the options tab at the far right of the ribbon of the opened folder but when I do that the apply button has recently greyed out. Also, is it possible to set each folder to it's own view. Thanks so much.

If you wanted to set a default view for all folders, you would want to use the method below instead.
