    Virtually no free space!

    AndreTen

I have managed to make it work!

All the files are the same date - the day in July I tried a 'restore' and after an hour it told me 'restore' had failed.

I have deleted the first 20 files one by one as a test case and each time the free space has increased with no harm to my PC!

Should I now carry on and delete the remaining 229 files? Why did they appear in the first place - was it because the restore was not successful and it left files in place which would have disappeared had the restore worked?

    Thanks again

OK, try this way. I wrote that lines in del_00.bat file - at the bottom of post.
Save it to you desktop and double click. ~00xx files should be gone and there will remain two new files "attrib.txt" and temp.txt
command attrib is there to se what kind of files are those, if it doesn't work first time...

File del_00.bat contain this simple lines:
    C:
    cd C:\
    attrib -h ~00?? > attrib.txt
    del ~00??
    echo %Temp% > Temp.txt
    del_00a.bat

Changed attrib line to shows attributes instead of clear hidden

    attrib ~00?? > attrib.txt

Well - all is ok. I got there eventually with your help. If nothing else I have learned to use 'snippet' and 'treesize'
Looking in Acer C now I have 52GB free of 95GB which is what it was approximately before all the problems.
    Thanks again

Great moggie. You did it :)
But this is first part. Now that you learnt how to post pictures, lets see what does your disk partitioning looks like (like some other users suggested before..)

Right click on Start and select Disk management and post picture of your partitions..

OK, I don't see any real problem here. You could get rid of last partition (15 GB recovery) It's probably from Acer, but you could make backup on external drive (with Macrium or similar) and use that space for files.

One other thing, that file you run to delete your files created a Temp.txt file in your C: folder. Could you open it and paste the text here. It is your %Temp% destination. It should be like C:\Users\You\Appdata\Temp... and if it's not, more files could be created..

In case you might be interested in viewing a screenshot of your hard drive's space diagram, check this out.
Open File Explorer, right click Acer (C), left click Properties, your Acer (C) will show up.
    Mine looks like this

I believe it's also possible to increase your free space to more than 51.65GB as AndreTen has indicated.
I do system image backups at the end of the month, just before the beginning of the following month.
The reason is that Microsoft does updates more than once a month
I use Macrium Reflect Free (MRF).
