can i still get updates without being a insider?
Yes, you can still get the free upgrade to Windows 10 and continue to get updates without being in the insider program. All you need is a qualifying OS installed on the PC you want to upgrade.

I've used Windows ever since Windows 3. I've never been an insider and have always gotten all updates. As far as Windows pre-release is concerned, I could be inaccurate on those updates.

The UK has a strict data protection act. Data that could be personally linked to me could only be legally obtained by law enforcement and intelligence services with a warrant, and that would amount to things like times active and IP addresses over the last 12 months.
This does not only apply to The UK.

Very true but in Windows 10, insiders will get it first.
