Not able to search executables or pinned Start apps from Start menu

I'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.

What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).

Is anyone else experiencing this? I've already rebooted and rebuild the index. Thanks.

EDIT: according to the feedback app, a lot are experiencing this. Really hoping they change this behavior.

Yes, but it was working a few days ago, so a recent update buggered it.

Are you sure it worked from the Start menu? I'm using a RTM PC that wasn't updated for over a week and it's showing the same behavior.

EDIT: I wrote a small blog post about it in more detail - https://marriedgeek.com/windows-10-s...h-executables/

Same exact situation. I have a number of portable apps and search doesn't bring them up. An additional behavior is that it's seemingly less good at predicting results. So, for example, when I want to open regedit I would get about four letters in and Windows would predict it for me. Now I have to type the whole word.

My current solution is to install Classic Shell (the current release candidate) and use that for my application launches. This way I get the expected results / behaviors from the usual keystrokes. I can still access the Windows 10 start menu by pressing shift-windows.

Anyone found a solution yet? Tired of not being able to just my keyboard and search in order to start wanted apps easily. :)
