Does windows updates need to on fully automatic to start downloading. I am trying that to see if I can get to start download. Also will there be a way to force the download on the 29th if it didn't start for me.
I think it would help to be all automatic, try forcing automatic maintenance too, it wouldn't start downloading for me until I did that.
Anyway, countdown to upgrade start here : Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise for your business

Both systems are HPs and both have now "completed" all the downloads (as far as I know). Also, the desktop is almost two years old and the laptop is (I think) around six to eight months old. Both have already been "upgraded" from Windows 8.1 Core to Windows 8.1 Pro, so HP won't have anything to do with it.

In fact, I would be very surprised if HP wanted to physically have anything to do with the upgrade, since it's pretty much automatic. I mean why would HP spend the bucks to do what Microsoft is already doing? The only reason I can see is if one bought an HP computer with the "free upgrade to Windows 10" attached to it. That would be the only instance I could even remotely imagine HP sticking its proverbial hand into the upgrade.

If you've been using the laptop and it's been busy all day, that seems to block the downloads somewhat; maybe walk away from it for an hour or two.

Also, if you're not a Windows Insider (don't mean to say you're not), it may take longer for all the bits to download.
I am an insider but never on this laptop PC. Also I used a different email while signing up for the laptop upgrade to avoid confusion with the desktop upgrade. Maybe that's the reason the laptop doesn't have the $Windows.~BT folder yet. My insider email was used for the desktop upgrade which has the $Windows.~BT folder. But, I don't see why it wouldn't work unless the $Windows.~BT drivers will only work on the desktop only, not the laptop.

I'll wait & see if it shows up on the laptop. So far, nadda.

BTW- HP has a link & for $30 they would manage the upgrade for you. I knew they find a way to make $$ off of this!

Oh, well, there are plenty of worse places than the land of the maple leaf, Mike.
