I'm having this same issue. All the files are now gone after running setupprep.exe. Well, there's still setupprep.exe, wdscore.dll, and en-us\setupprep.exe.mui. I'm not sure what or if I'll have to do anything to upgrade.

These things are not meant to be run manually.
Be patient and they should run as scheduled starting the 29th.

    Interesting...
    component build
    Explorer 16405
    NToskrnl 16393

I read yesterday that 16405 is the Current Build for Day One.
Day one patch for Windows 10 features over 1GB of fixes and improvements (download links)
They author got the KB wrong though - KB3074683 fixes what KB3074681 broke. c'est la vie!

What does msinfo32 tell you on your machine. Curiosity only ... I'm waiting to upgrade until Redstone in Q1 2016.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Hi Bill, I assume you are referring to HAL... it was 16392 the last I checked...
on Win 7 at the moment to see if I get the update albeit this machine has already been upgraded on a different SSD.
(The only real reason I'll consider d/l'ng is if we get new keys - all else seems exactly what we already have.)

I didn't upgrade my Lappy 17 until a few days ago . . . yet it's already downloaded over 4 GB worth of stuff and has the Windows BT folder.

Desktop was upgraded a few days earlier than the laptop and since I've been using it today, it didn't start its downloading until awhile ago.
Wynona - I see you have an HP but not sure if it's a desktop or laptop. In any case, I was wondering if HP would block the upgrade & force the upgrade through HP. Initially my laptop didn't have the Win10 upgrade icon. I had to force it to work by changing the registry key. I then reserved a copy a few days ago. As of now my custom built PC has the $Windows.~BT folder but not the HP laptop. Just curious if it made a difference using my PCs $Windows.~BT folder on the HP?

Both systems are HPs and both have now "completed" all the downloads (as far as I know). Also, the desktop is almost two years old and the laptop is (I think) around six to eight months old. Both have already been "upgraded" from Windows 8.1 Core to Windows 8.1 Pro, so HP won't have anything to do with it.

In fact, I would be very surprised if HP wanted to physically have anything to do with the upgrade, since it's pretty much automatic. I mean why would HP spend the bucks to do what Microsoft is already doing? The only reason I can see is if one bought an HP computer with the "free upgrade to Windows 10" attached to it. That would be the only instance I could even remotely imagine HP sticking its proverbial hand into the upgrade.

If you've been using the laptop and it's been busy all day, that seems to block the downloads somewhat; maybe walk away from it for an hour or two.

Also, if you're not a Windows Insider (don't mean to say you're not), it may take longer for all the bits to download.

Does windows updates need to on fully automatic to start downloading. I am trying that to see if I can get to start download. Also will there be a way to force the download on the 29th if it didn't start for me.

There is no need to force anything. Let it work its magic on its own time.

Well, we're nearly 9 hrs into the 29th here and my 8.1 notebook seems to have finished its downloads. Just waiting for the magic trigger to start the update. No idea what that magic trigger is, though!!
