So after 30 days windows.old will be deleted ?
Judging by past experience, not all by itself but using Disk Cleanup from windows, you can remove it. It may be possible to do it now too if you don't plan on going back to windows version from before update.

Once you upgrade and make or get ISO, do a clean install and if you sign in with same MS account, you shouldn't have to use any keys, it will be activated thru MSA server.

Hm I'm an insider plus I have reserved the upgrade but nothing has happened so far, no downloads, no nothing. The PC has constantly been running for the past 20 hours or so.

So, you mean that you have not waited to upgrade via the icon in the Taskbar but you have downloaded the ISO again and performed a clean installation?
I ran the upgrade, but yes... The ISO option said to put it on a different PC and that a Windows key would be needed, but not what version of windows; so I didn't bother, although I think I might try now. Things seem to be a bit buggy.

Edited: Btw, I did the erase everything option, it was a (fully updated) clean install of Win 8.1.

Read somewhere that the latest Win 10 Insider Prev will be upgrades to Win 10 full when it is released. A good idea to install this sooner rather than upgrading Win 7 / 8.1 to 10?
