Probably a long shot ... I wonder if it could be the OneDrive Icon Overlay entries that got left in the registry. There are a few of them (OneDrive1,OneDrive2,etc) and I would export them, before deleting them.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers

In that section of the registry editor, I have:

    (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

and a folder of EnhancedStorageShell which houses:

    (Default) REG_SZ {D9144DCD-E998-4ECA-AB6A-DCD83CCBA16D}

I don't know, but maybe try to delete it with eraser? Or Revo uninstaller.

Go to explorer and navigate here

    C:\Users\<your login name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    Right click and delete.

Edit: you will need to show hidden folders first.

Your posted images show OneDrive on the Start Menu, not the Desktop.

If you have win 10 home you're "not supposed to not use onedrive" unless tweaking keys that will
possibly be restored when you update, namely you have to screw up a bit how the system is supposed to
    work to disable onedrive.
My advice is to use win 10 pro, disable onedrive and do not uninstall the program, in my experience this is how
all onedrive icons and folder disappear and pc works well.

    hope this help

Simplest thing is to ENABLE onedrive and set it so no folders are syncing. That way it is basically dormant.

It is even easier now you can have "files on demand" in Insider versions (effectively placeholders).

I have uploaded files to one drive, and I can see them from Windows, and access them on demand, but no longer have to maintain sync folders, with resources being used.

You may create a new local admin user account and see if issue still exists.

    I'm having the same problem.

Did you ever figure out how to remove this?

Nope, nothing's gotten this to work. It still shows up exactly the same in all the same places as before, sadly
