    I figured it out tonight. The "e" on my task bar was not Internet Explorer, it was Internet Elite! They look identical. I got IE from Windows Accessories and can now download anything.
    Got Firefox and my software.
    Found this tip online after a hundred Google searches and checked it out. WHEW!

    .
    As Mooley said, Internet Explorer and Edge come standard on Windows 10.

    The only Internet Elite I've ever heard of is a browser extension for Chrome, or Elite Web Tool browser extension by Aztec Media Inc, which is a browser hijacker, so not sure what you have on there.

    Well, glad you got it sorted, but I would wonder what else is on that system that shouldn't be/you don't want...

    Mooly, Microsoft officially removed Internet Exploder from all installed distros of Windows 10. The engie is what Edge was set to run on. Only issue that the software and apps make the OS appear to be child like and gaudy.
    I am not aware of this. Link please?

    Only the "bad" one was on the task bar. When I put IE there too the only difference between icons was a variation of blue.
    The link on the Taskbar is just that - a link - the software will still be installed on the system, even if you delete the link to it.

    @bro67

    Don't confuse the ability to add/remove the IE component in Programs and Features with IE being removed from Windows. If it is unchecked, it would certainly appear to be removed, because it is. But I don't believe that is the default, I believe it is checked for inclusion by default.

    Removed from task bar. Elite is wrong name. It's still available but I shall not encounter it again or if I do will not use it.

    Elite is wrong. Edge I think. Got it off task bar and remembered name incorrectly.

    Why would they have a browser that doesn't allow downloads....except from Microsoft store (shopping bag icon)? Hence my title "trapped".

    They don't. Hence my comment previous - you just don't know what's on that thing, and a clean install is in order.
