    SOLVED!!

I found out how to show a real time graph from OpenHardwareMonitor and it showed CPU temps were off the topof the chart while Prime95 was running. So I took the fan off the back of teh CPU cooloer and what did I see? All the heat sink fins were totally clogged with fuzz and dust. So I cleaned all that out with a vacuum and now the CPU temps stay withing reason.

Uploading images doesn't seem to work right now but I'll try again to show some pics later on.

Great- one of the straightforward ones. Will look forward to the shocking exposé.

This is how the heatsink looked before cleaning. It was pretty awful. But a few seconds with the vacuum cleaner hose cleared it out almost like new.
