Official definition of Part Number by Microsoft?

Does anybody know what is the official definition of part numbers by microsoft?

I contacted support chat, they say that part numbers are supposed to begin with an X then followed by 4 numbers like for example X-1234, if this is true, then what do they officially call a code like this FQC-08930??

I suspect 'part number' means different things to different people. To me as a technician it means a number relating to an individual component or part within a piece of hardware, a number that the manufacturer recognises and is able to supply a replacement part from.

It could also relate to consumer products for sale, my W8.1 retail discs begin with X18-xxxxx-xx

That can also be called a part number although to me the term is incorrect.

If you don't call X-1234 as part #, then what do you call that?

I can say with a degree of certainty that what microsoft officially calls SKU is something like FQC-08930? CmIIW
