    Laptop keeps asking me to set the date & keeps asking for Win act key?


    Date/Time problem:
    I have a Toshiba Satellite E45DW-C4210 laptop. Every time my laptop dies (battery runs or dies out) or when I restart my laptop (occasionally) it asks me to set the date and time. It always happens.

    Any idea why it keeps asking me to set the date/time?

    Windows activation errors:
    Last, every time my laptop starts up, I get this Windows popup saying this: https://i.imgur.com/mw0v1Ie.jpgMy Window 10 came pre-installed.

    I did do a fresh install last week because my laptop was so slow, don't know if that is an issue. I didn't wipe the entire laptop. Also, there is no Windows key anywhere on my laptop.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not tech savvy at all. Thanks :)

    When did you buy it?

    BTW ... If the link you gave is correct ... I see a Windows key on the laptop.

    Your CMOS or RTC battery is dead. Now in a lot of laptops this is a little power pack rather than the coin size CR2032 battery. Some even use a capacitor system which yours appears to use reading page 73 of your manual. It talks about charging.

    Yours doesn't appear to be charging properly. Not sure if it is replaceable.

    I would Google replacing CMOS RTC battery. You may even find a video on how to dismantle device and you may get clues there.

    Your BIOS has the key. Likely related to "Battery / Capacitor" issue. Fix one an the other will likely go away. (the label may be under battery but likely just in BIOS).

    Ditto to the CMOS battery being dead and needing to be replaced. A product key ending in H8Q99 is the generic key 10 Home gets with the free upgrade. This utility will tell you if there is an embedded key in the BIOS. ShowKeyPlus Open a Command Prompt (Admin) and run slmgr /ato and see if that fixes your activation.

    When you did your fresh install, how exactly did you do it? And are you sure you installed the correct version? The version you install has to match the BIOS key and or the Digital License stored on the activation server. One common mistake made is people install 10 Home SL (Single Language) thinking its the Home version. It's not, its a special version of Home. To install Windows 10 Home or Pro you select the Entry labled "Windows 10" in the media creation tool drop down menu.
