Windows 10 Update - Black Screen With Cursor X201 after logging in

    Hello All,

As the title states...there was a recent Windows 10 update I proceeded with a few days ago. I have an old Lenovo X201 with 8 GB of RAM and an SSD. 64-bit.

I gain access to the home screen to log into my account. After I login, I am presented with a blank (black) screen with just my cursor.

Same thing happens when I boot up into safemode.

I have posted on the Lenovo Forums, but no luck. Hoping this awesome community could help me out!

    Best,
    Mike

    Hi 996c4s.

Would normal say driver but you say it is happening in safe mode as well. How long do you wait for the black screen to clear? Some of these updates seem to be doing extensive work in back ground.

So do you actual get X201 on the black screen with the cursor?

    Hi Ken,

The black screen does not clear at all. It just stays there after I log in with my credentials.

and for sure this happens in Safe Mode that you enter by processing through trouble shooting menu's? Normally without the graphics driver window defaults to basic VGA output.

Do you get anything once you log in or just black screen.

Have you got your data safely backed up off machine. If not you likely want to create a Kyhi recovery disk, boot with it and copy data out.

Do you have any recovery media or boot media that you can use?
