    Hi there

Use this one as suggested already -- It's small / Free and when a 3rd party app does the job there's nothing wrong in using it.

By the same reasoning would you refuse to add say any non BMW accessories to a BMW !!.

Posters keep referring to W10 files being sent before July 29 for those who reserved the upgrade. What files? I understand there will be driver updates that the OEMs will make available to all W7/8 keyed systems because the OEMs will not know who among their clients have chosen to upgrade. Supported drivers and all the OEM supplied programs (e.g. recovery programs, utilities, apps) are their responsibility. Are these 'the files' everyone is referring to?

I don't know specifically which files, but users are referring to the statement in the GWX applet saying that the files for the upgrade would start downloading in advance after a copy of 10 was reserved. We're just looking for that activity.

As I understand it, the plan is to reduce server load during roll out so that everyone is not trying to download the entire upgrade at once. So after you register for the upgrade, files will be quietly downloaded to your computer. Which files? Who knows, but I would guess that they would be ones that were finalized a while back and wouldn't change much regardless of the Win10 version. So the bulk of the upgrade would ultimately be sitting in a folder on your computer - probably waiting for the last few to be sent at the last minute. Then on the 29th (or shortly after) most people would already have the bulk of the download and the servers won't be hammered with a bazillion requests to deliver an entire OS all at the same time.

If your running Windows 7 or 8.1 and have reserved your free upgrade via the Get Windows 10 App. The files needed to upgrade your PC to Windows 10 are downloaded in the background before the 29th. Sometime on or after the 29th you'll get a notification that your upgrade is ready and you can proceed. Having all the files already downloaded saves time. All this is assuming your PC is on and connected to the internet long enough for this to happen.

There are a variety of these programs: The 10 Best Free Tools to Analyze Hard Drive Space on Your Windows PC
This is a good list of free programs available, I've used WinDirStat in the past, it's a good program as are the others but that's the only one I've had experience with.

The directory list and extension list are especially useful, the treemap not so much except for getting the graphical view of a drive. It can remove unnecessary, unneeded files from within the program. Seemed to me to be pretty user friendly. I haven't used WinDirStat recently but the screen shots of it from the link swarfega provided The 10 Best Free Tools to Analyze Hard Drive Space on Your Windows PC it looks the same.

I have seen no new folders or any indication that new files have been downloaded to my PC since I reserved W10. It is the afternoon of July 26th where I am and it is already July 27th elsewhere in the world, so MS has 1-2 days to send out all these prerequisite 'files' to all those who have not yet received them. I am betting none have been sent out and if MS is still planning on doing it, it will be after July 29th for the reservists. MS has to be consolidating all their resources for the Insiders roll-out scheduled July 29th - 5 million plus users getting the RTM and windows updates. I have to ask - any W10 reservist received 'the files' yet ?

You'll be unlikely to see anything, except for things slowing down as the big download interferes with normal traffic and disk activity.

A universally present, safely hidden and generally unreachable location such as C:\System Volume Information will receive the partial download ESD, probably with some meaningless GUID type name, which on completion, and possibly after you have accepted the invitation to start the upgrade, will be decrypted to $Windows.~BT on the boot drive of the system you have selected for upgrading. Then things will start happening!
