    Search not working

So I have W10 Home version build 15063.413 and the search function is, well, not really functioning.

I try clicking on "This PC" and in the "Search this PC" I enter a search term, say U2 (I have several of their albums in My Music) and I press enter. Nothing happens.

Or I go to Start and scroll to search and get more or less the same results. This method gets me all kinds of links to go buy stuff, but to find what is already on my PC the search function is pretty lame. W7 found results every time, w10 just points me at things to buy.

    A little frustrated

Hi, assuming you are relatively unfamiliar with Win 10, there are different instances of search, with different significance.

    1. There is search for files and folders using the search field in File Explorer

In this case, a content search for aardvark found indexed text files.

    2. Settings
Search in Settings finds- yes- useful settings.

    3. 'Cortana' search
Typically a search field in the taskbar, or via Windows key + S, or 'Hey cortana'

This is the most awkward to grasp.
By default it returns results from indexed files and folders + web search + programs and apps (start menu)

It does NOT return results from non-indexed files and folders (unlike file explorer search).
It does NOT find any form of executable file.

Web search cannot be turned off.

However, hit Windows key + S, and some character(S) to search for, and the top row in the popup contains filter options for file and folder types.

Apps, docs, web and the down arrow offers a lot more.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
How can one improve on this?
    1. Use Classic Shell Start menu (free) - a fully configurable search feature, drag 'n drop, and the best of XP + Win 7 start menus - very configurable. This works properly- Win 10's start menu doesn't.

This is intuitive and great for people coming from '7, and mentioned often here.

    2. Use 1 of the 3 well-known find-as-you-type search programs mentioned many times here:
    Ultrasearch
    Locate32
    Everything (by void tools).

Use these and you'll hardly every bother with file explorer search again.
