Black screen no cursor or login

My Samsung laptop is technically switched on in the sense that it has power, however when I switch it on there is no login screen, no screen with the samsung logo, and no cursor. No matter how many buttons I press or how often I switch it on and off, it remains the same - black, power but nothing else. Any advice?

Sounds like a hardware problem if you see nothing on the screen- ever. Do you hear any beeps?
How do you know it is powered up- is anything illuminated? (Usually there's some indicator- power, disk...)

History- was this working yesterday and now not? Have you just bought this? Etc...

Yes there are lights on (where the power button is) and sometimes I can hear a beep, also the fan is on.

My laptop is a bit old, I don't know how old but it was originally Windows 7 before I updated it to Windows 10.

I've had a few problems with it in the past where I have had to reset it, however those were always simple software issues. This is the first time where there is simply nothing on the screen.

I have tried unplugging the power and battery, resetting it multiple times, but all to no avail. It started last night, I think I might have not powered it down so it was in sleep mode for a long time. I can't get it to sleep now though.

If you can't even access the BIOS, I can't think of much you can do. You would normally expect to see a splash screen of some sort after power up. Without that there's no hope of getting it to boot from a DVD or flash drive.

You can of course extract the disk and read that on another PC.
