Windows 10 uses program icon instead of shortcut icon (like windows 7)

On Windows 7 i created several different shortcuts for putty that opened different sessions.
When i clicked on one of these icons to open a session it would show that shortcut icon on the taskbar.
On windows 10 it is now showing the generic icon for putty and grouping these different sessions together.
Is there a way to tell windows 10 to use the shortcut icon like windows 7 did?

Right click the icon and Run as Administrator, does it do the same thing?

I'm kind of guessing at what you want, but try this. Right click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings. Then go to the "Combine taskbar buttons" setting and set it to "never".

I put these icons on the taskbar.
They are shortcuts on my desktop for putty sessions to different servers.

In windows 7 if i click on one of the icons and open a session then it uses these icons and each session is under it's own icon (as below image).

However in windows 10 if i click on the taskbar shortcut it opens the session and displays it on the taskbar using the icon for putty.exe and all sessions are under that 1 icon (like below image):

I want each different session under its own icon like in windows 7.

I could have sworn the setting I mentioned split them up into separate icons, had a look myself and it doesn't? I don't have any other suggestions at the moment.

I just found out that a fellow team member is having the same issue but on Windows 7.
So it is not necessarily a windows 10 issue.

alphanumeric's solution should fix the issue.

Look at my Taskbar in the screenshot. So you want all windows of the same program to be separated like in the screen shot?
