    Extra large icons too small

I'm running Windows 10 64 bit Home edition on a laptop.
When I select "extra large icons" in WindowsExplorer the spacing increases but the thumbnail size stays the same as for"large icons".
I have tried all the suggested fixes from the net, but nonehas worked.
These included the obvious mouse wheel fix - this justreduces size,
    registry tweak - did nothing,
A fix involving the group policy editor (once I'd made itwork) to "turn off task bar icons"
    but that option wasn't there.
One suggestion to use the Faststone Image Viewer is anoption but it's an unwieldy overkill.
    Can any one please help

    Hi,
windows - No on High DPI laptop (Win) - Super User

Switching up to the "Extra Large icons" (Cntl+Shift+1) setting DOESN'T ALTER THE SIZE OF THE THUMBNAILS. All it does is space them apart more and change the wrapping parameters of the filename (the text wraps onto a second line at 44 characters, instead of 16).
    - does your laptop have a very high screen resolution?

Bigger than 'Extra large Icons' ? - Windows 7 Help Forums
    - possibly an absolute pixel limit?

    Hi dalchina

    Thanks for the response.
It seems that there is an absolute limit on icon size of 250 pixels and
no matter what you do, this and hence "Extra Large Icons", cannot be increased.
It seems a crazy shortcoming and about time MS did something about it.
What's also strange is that on my desktop which runs Windows 10 pro, there's no problem -
"Extra Large Icons" are large enough to be useful.

Just for interest can you advise your laptop's screen resolution? (Screen size and DPI)

    Hi dalchina,

I have the same issue and guess it's the resolution as you suggested. I have a Dell xps 13, resolution 3200*1800 or 4K.

You would think, I know silly me, that Microsoft would do there research and figure out that the 4K resolution is in the market. Maybe once they upgrade the surface pro to 4k resolution they will fix win 10.

    Cheers!

I am still facing the same issue in 2023. Has there been any solution to this between 2017 & 2023 ????

Right click the Desktop and choose Display Settings.
Scroll down to Scale and Layout. Increase the Scale from 100% to 125 or 150. Then adjust the icon size to your liking.

Already did that my scale is 300% and some icons/text are too small to read but the most irritating thing is that the stupid Extra Large Icons or Extra Large Thumbnails simply do not work.

I'm guessing you have a high resolution screen- is that so?

Try changing the icon font and size:

    - same thing, easier with the free tool above.
