How to manually remove leftover files with Admin command prompt...

Hi Eagle... I had Avest a long time ago... I think it was when windows 7 was in this machine... For a while now, I've been running Malwarebytes ...

You may or may not have left over Avast folders from back then, but you might try Avast Removal Tool or Avast Clear.

Edit: Autoruns might help to see if that aswsp.sys is still be loading, just be careful with it.

I'd err on the side of caution and just move the aswTdi.sys and aswSP.sys out of \system32\drivers to a backup folder, then reboot. We Don't know if there is a registry entry for them or not. Autoruns.exe (run as Admin) can help you with that, to see what/if anything it shows about them.

Note: If you don't have current backup image, I strongly suggest you make one. Macrium Reflect Free is what I use and is what most here will recommend.

Well Eagle, I knocked out both drivers. PC is booting fine, but the event viewer is still picking up something the same error message is still showing up... POS avast...
I checked out Autoruns but I'm going to need to educate myself pretty darn well before I use it... (Seems very dangerous, if you don't know all the in's and out's of the program... (Of what I saw, if you mistakenly unchecked something you could be in deep do-do...
Is there another tool that will search for drivers and paths. Thanks...

Nah, it is pretty safe. If you untick something it remains but is disabled (doesn't run). You can add it back by ticking it again. You only delete things by right click and selecting delete.

Assuming your system still boots of course

If you stick to disabling non-MS stuff you'll be OK most likely - you'll only break 3rd party stuff. I never had problems anyway and I'm pretty cavalier...

Hi,lx07... OK just to be sure. Tick do not show windows files or something like that. (Sorry I don't have the program installed any more).
Then nothing I do will effect by booting (correct). Because I'm just seeing programs none essential to windows. If something would not load and effect by boot then
booting in safe mode should let me get back in to correct the problem. Just want to be sure on this... Thanks for the reply...

That's right - there is an option that says "Hide Microsoft Entries" you can tick. What is left are safe(ish) to disable and your system will most likely boot - it will only break the application it is related to. That has been my experience.

I've never had not boot into safe mode to re-enable non-MS stuff although it is possible I suppose.

You could always make a system image before changing things and if it all goes horribly wrong restore that.
