Can't access more than 100 screensavers in settings menu?

I have lots of small screensavers installed - many are just variations and sets of a similar theme, but show individually in the screensavers settings drop-down box. It seems that I cannot access anything beyond the first 100 - for me that means anything after midway through the letter S isn't listed in the drop-down box. So I can't access settings for some of my screensavers, as I need to bring it up through that drop-down box and click settings.

Is there any way around this? Why would it be capped at 100? I counted and I have 100 listings available, and it ends part-way through the letter S.

I used to use a program called: ScreenSaver Commander 1.3

It lets you have a random screen saver from your 100+ screen savers to load up whenever the computer goes into screen saver mode. You an set the screen saver settings throughout the program I think. I don't remember. But you can still configure the settings for your screen savers by searching for them, right click, Configure.

That would be my resolution to the issue of listing all the screen savers... and you can have a random screen saver used whenever computer goes into screen saver mode, which is cool; you don't have to set it manually.

Thanks for the suggestion. Hmm, I just downloaded Screensaver Commander, and like all new software I download, I ran it through VirusTotal first. Here's what I got:

    Baidu Win32.Trojan.WisdomEyes.16070401.9500.9742
    Invincea backdoor.win32.delf.du
    Rising Malware.Heuristic!ET#83% (rdm+)
    TrendMicro-HouseCall PAK_Generic.005
    Webroot W32.Malware.Gen

That makes me kinda nervous about this software. Any advice? Are these positives just because of the way it hooks into your screensavers?

I looked up online, and this seems to be the official site for it: ScreenSaver Commander — Badevlad Software Company

Is that where you got it from?

It should be safe, but if you want to take the most perfect secure route, you can download it from a trusted site like: ScreenSaver Commander - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Assuming that VirusTotal states that it's also the same thing, then there is a 100% guarantee that it was just a false positive, most likely like you stated, because it hooks with screen savers. Since if another trusted site has it hosted there, then that file definitely has been checked for viruses. (Use that as a general rule, if you find a file that could be a virus from one location, check another trusted location, and if the same applies, then that file is safe, just a false positive)

I also downloaded it just now from their site, and Windows Defender didn't do anything about it.

Just made a restore point just in case, and installed it. Instantly I have access through the program to all the screensavers and settings. Thanks a ton for the suggestion!

I still can't imagine why Windows would limit me like that. But thankfully there's something out there that lets me work around it.

Yea, it's strange. What my best assumption would be is that since the whole "screen saver" ideology was an old style of a computer feature back then that was so cool, yet no one ever reached having over 100+ screen savers, so that certain 'bug' has never been encountered with, so you're the first! lol you should tell Microsoft about it. They'll ask you if you're from 1995 and got thrown into the future or something.

But yea, it was a really cool program when I used to use it (now I just have the lock screen slide show, love it). I think you set that program as the screen saver from Windows' Screen Saver settings, and everytime it loads the program, the program would take over by running whatever settings you put for it.

Also one other suggestion, I had this screen saver that plays videos. It's those cool repetitive videos that look cool.

Sorry, that site I stated for the animated screen savers sucks. I have videos like this saved on the computer:

(Edit: with no audio on the videos)

Lol, yeah, not many people bother with screensavers anymore. I still have a lot of old favorites that I fire up just for fun now and then. Like you said, I bet not many people have encountered this restriction. Still, you would think somebody might have?

Here's a link to one of my favorite collections. They're free and tiny in size, but give quite a dazzling show.
