Mouse cursor has disappeared - cannot find solution or problem

    Hi
Booted up my computer this morning and all seemed fine. Installed an iTunes update. Computer did necessary restart & then after that my mouse cursor had disappeared entirely.

I'm using a logitech wireless mouse & keyboard with a unifying USB. Unifying software has not recognised the usb for a long time but both mouse & keyboard have functioned normally. I've uninstalled iTunes in case it was that, I've deleted drivers and removed the bluetooth dongle & then reinstalled them with no joy.

I've gone to mouse settings and enabled "click CTRL to show mouse position" - mouse is always in the centre of the screen and doesn't appear to move no matter what I do. I've tried a separate windows wireless mouse and nothing either.

I just cannot get a cursor to appear and cannot figure out what or why has happened.

I'm using a desktop PC with Creator Update installed.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm completely lost.

    Thanks

    Nick

    Hello Nick,

Have you tried a wired mouse? If this works fine then you need to determine if it is the USB connection or the mouse being faulty, the fact that a separate wireless mouse also failed suggests it is probably the USB unless both mouse devices are faulty or have flat batteries.

Check that all your USB devices are enabled in device manager. Open device manager and look at the list of devices under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Assuming that you were able to re-control your computer with a wired mouse,
    1) unplug the wireless adapter for the keyboard and mouse from the computer
    2) uninstall the Logitech drivers completely off your computer.
    3) turn off the computer
    4) plug in the wireless adapter for the keyboard and mouse in the computer
    5) turn on the computer and wait for it to load. What happen?

Thank you both for your replies.

Philc43 - at the moment can't get my hands on a wired mouse. Might have one in the loft but need to wait until tomorrow as the kids are asleep.

I've tried two different wireless mice (apart from the current one), in different USB ports (front & back). I've also unplugged by Anker USB 3.0 hub. It's not caused any issues in the past but I've noticed that when it's plugged in when I boot I see a "No Keyboard Deteceted" message on boot-up so wasn't sure if there was a link.

I've looked at that old post - can't see a USB Root Hub (xHCI) under my USB ports. I do have two under mouse though but they've both been there previously with no issues - and without any wired peripherals I can't get rid of them all at the mo.

Pepanee - thank you. As above, with no wired peripherals available at the mo I can't test. As soon as I get hold of some I will.

Something I have noticed of interest - mouse cursor does show & does work when in BIOS. Doesn't show on normal or safe mode.

Will get my hands on wired mouse tomorrow & update.

    SOLVED!

Finally worked it out. Found the Unifying device listed under Bluetooth in the settings menu. Removed device, removed the USB, restarted PC, reinserted dongle and voila, mouse reappeared!

Cool! I hope my response gave you a head start of a similar idea of what you did to solve it.

It did, and I'd tried it through device settings. Wasn't aware it would show up in Bluetooth as well, stumbled across it by mistake.

I love the random mistakes that so rarely end up as solutions. Those are the good ones.
