Nono, I'm not cutting my losses and the problem persists on new user accounts so it's not specific to my account.

Exactly, as the problem exists on new accounts as well you have a general problem.

Of course, you're free to research a solution, and maybe someone else here may be able to help. Good luck!

Ok weird, with the help of the narrator, I've attempted a system restore from windows 10, normally booted and .... it somehow worked. Didn't think it would since even a system restore from the recovery environment didn't work.

All text are back and the fixes made by "Permissions Time Machine" are still applied (search indexer service seem to start now)

****ing finally..... now time to get a new hdd to make an image and thanks to everyone who tried to help

This problem happened to me when I was trying to change the permission/security settings for my C drive. I was trying to change this so I could save files into it. See:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...a51d15a?auth=1

However, when this was done the missing text problem occurred. So the problem is related to the permissions of something in the root drive. Anyway, I followed Skodd's approach to solving this problem and it worked. Once the system restore was started, it took a very long time to proceed (I estimated just under an hour) so please be patient!

For the benefit of future people who might have this problem, what is needed is some pictures of the various menus so users can work out what the Narrator is saying. You can find that here:

I just made an account because I too have the exact same issue (I got it the same way deuxanges did, by attempting to change permissions to my pc instead of "TrustedInstaller" (which I now know is supposedly Microsoft's default admin which has more control over files than one's admin user). I didn't have a previous restore point created and attempted to do what Skodd did (after setting up one by following the tutorial on deuxanges's link), but it didn't fix the issue. I think it's because I didn't have a restore point created prior and this restore point (after making it) reverted 3 hours back, and that time I was still trying to figure out how to fix this issue.

I wanna point out that this happened after changing the permissions on both my C and D drives, not just a specific folder.

So overall, I'm stuck and don't know what to do. I was thinking that maybe if I retrace my steps (it's gonna be even harder than before now that navigator's all I got) and set them back to their defaults it *might* solve the issue, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm gonna give it a try though since I don't want to do a factory reset.

In the end I decided to factory reset. I couldn't find any other means of fixing the issue (the more I attempt to mess with the permissions more problems i run into, like certain buttons being locked or disappearing entirely, making all screenshots of the properties menu and sub menus literally useless). I figured my data's still safe since I backed it up on my external hard drive so there's no major harm to that with resetting (those I'm concerned for my various game saves, if they'll be compatible after the reset and installations...oh, and all the various programs I gotta reinstall after this is over, that's also gonna be a pain... I don't know if I managed to save all my recent plugins for various programs or if i'll need to re-download em, but I'll find out once the reset's complete).

Thanks for everyone that replied on this thread and OP for making the post, and also deuxanges for giving me hope since he also had the same issue as me (I just didn't have a restore point to revert to, but now I know to make them periodically after this).

If anything do yourselves a favour and enable system protection as well as make a restore point every now and then incase something like this ever happens to you; it'll save you the trouble of doing a reset and going through hassles like reinstalling everything.

I am running into the same problem, but whenever I type "create a restore point" , the dialouge box has no words, pictures and is 3 kilometers long, what do I do? This is extremly frustrating

    Hi All,

I'm testing WINDOWS 10 PRO within the domain. After completing the join I encountered the same problem. At the first restart some characters disappear, while at the second restart they are no longer displayed at any point (contextual menu, explore resources, etc ...). I tried to reinstall the system several times and on different machines both virtual and physical. Can someone suggest a way to solve?

The domain is windows 2003 server.
The system is windows 10 PRO version 1803 (Build SO 17134.137) installed with USB flash drive or ISO image generated with the microsoft tool

I looked at permissions but they look identical to the system before joining domain.

    Thanks
      My Computer
