Seeing two "Music" folders in This PC menu, "Pictures" missing

I was trying to move my Pictures/Music/Documents/Desktop off my SSD onto my 3TB, but I messed something up.

Somehow I changed the name of the Pictures folder to Music, and changed the link to point to music, but it still has the Pictures icon. I restored them all to the default location now, and have restarted several times, but hasn't been fixed. You can see in my screenshots that I do still have a Pictures folder in Users\ericc, but it's not being picked up by the This PC menu.

Is there a registry setting somewhere I can fix this with?

Figured it out! Replying so hopefully someone else can get to the answer faster than I did.

There are some registers in the same path that got screwed up somehow. I had two unnamed fields set to "%USERPROFILE%\Music". I just changed the top one to "%USERPROFILE%\Pictures", logged out then in, and it was fixed.









Ohh Windows!

Not sure if this is a software bug in windows, but seems like it. I suspect the thing that caused it was me trying to play with the quick access menu entries while still in the middle of moving the directories from C:\ to G:\

I think what caused it was probably me selecting "G:" as the folder, but forgetting to type "Pictures" so my Music and Pictures folders got merged somehow.

I know the post is over two years old, but still like to thank you. I have an issue with having 2 x Music folders targeted to the same director and no Pictures folder. I would change the target location for one of them to Pictures, with the result of both folders now being linked to the directory where I store my Pictures. I would then change the target location of my Music folder and both would change to Music.

Essentially, I could have one of the first two options below, but not option 3.

1 = 2 x Music and no Pictures folder;
2 = 2 x pictures folders and no Music folder;
3 = one of each

Your advice fixed the issue

You need to edit the paths found in the registry under:"

Code:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Look for the following enties:

• My Music
• My PIctures
• {a0c69a99-21c8-4671-8703-7934162fcf1d}
• {0ddd015d-b06c-45d5-8c4c-f59713854639}

For the GUID-named entries,

• {a0c6...1d} path should match My Music
• {0ddd...39} path should match My Pictures

Edit those to refelect the correcdt paths. Sigh out & sign back in or restart Explorer.

If the folders now open to the correct loction, but one or both is displaying the wrong name, <Shift>+right-click in the background of the folder displaying the wrong name, select Open PowerShell window here, and execute the following:

Code:

ri desktop.ini -force

and that will delete the file responsible for the errant display name.
