I used Group Policy Editor and disabled the "Allow Cortana" setting... That's it. I didn't bother with adding a registry entry to do it, but Microsoft making everybody jump through hoops is gonna be their undoing! Thank you for trying to help me, though!
As a test, run a SFC /SCANNOW command to see if that may help if may have some issue with a system file causing search to not work.

Nope! It wasn't doing it until Microsoft updated it, without me asking it to. They won't do it again, I've got all things Microsoft blocked in the host file now. They won't "Improve" anything else for me!

Actually, that was one of the first things I tried, but according to the Gods of intrusion , all is well.

I'm not sure what else to suggest other than to reset Windows to start fresh. Afterwards, you should be able to safely disable Cortana using the tutorial I posted earlier.

I know how to do all of that, and I'd rather install Linux on it than go back through turning off all Microsoft's crap again. As far as I'm concerned they should have named 10 Vista 2. Thanks for trying, Man. I do appreciate the effort. I'm sure it has something to do with this new build, because as I said, it was fine until they updated it! Once it screws up more peoples systems, I'm sure there will be plenty of info about it online.
