I disabled Cortana with gpedit, but now I can't type in the search bar

    As a test, run a SFC /SCANNOW command to see if that may help if may have some issue with a system file causing search to not work.

    Nope! It wasn't doing it until Microsoft updated it, without me asking it to. They won't do it again, I've got all things Microsoft blocked in the host file now. They won't "Improve" anything else for me!

    I'm not sure what else to suggest other than to reset Windows to start fresh. Afterwards, you should be able to safely disable Cortana using the tutorial I posted earlier.

    I know how to do all of that, and I'd rather install Linux on it than go back through turning off all Microsoft's crap again. As far as I'm concerned they should have named 10 Vista 2. Thanks for trying, Man. I do appreciate the effort. I'm sure it has something to do with this new build, because as I said, it was fine until they updated it! Once it screws up more peoples systems, I'm sure there will be plenty of info about it online.

After the WIn10 Creator's edition, can you still permanently kill Cortana via GPEdit ? (I know on Win10 Home its extremely hard to get rid of Cortana.)
So I've gotten fed up enough with the terrible windows search system. I went into services.msc and disabled the windows search service; then restarted my computer. However, "Cortana" is still listed in my task manager taking up 50mb of memory....
