What is error 0x80070003 and how to correct it.

I encountered this while specifying the destination drive and directory for my backup program. The program has been using this destination for years and it still exists. Post had incorrect error message. It's right now.

The only entries at Microsoft are for Windows 2000:

    Bug Check 0x3: INVALID_AFFINITY_SET

The INVALID_AFFINITY_SET bug check has a value of 0x00000003.
This bug check appears very infrequently.

    Error Message:

    INVALID_AFFINITY_SET
    Explanation:

This is a Windows character-mode Stop message. It indicates a null of incorrect subset affinity.
    User Action:

If this is the first time you have restarted after installing additional hardware, remove the hardware and restart again. Check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the hardware and its drivers are compatible with Windows 2000. For information about the hardware, contact the supplier. If you are installing Windows 2000 for the first time, check the Windows 2000 system requirements, including amount of RAM and disk space required to load the operating system. Also check the Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the system can run Windows 2000. If Windows 2000 is loaded and no new hardware has been installed, restart with recovery options set to create a dump file. If the message continues to appear, select the Last Known Good option when you restart. If there is no Last Known Good configuration, try using the Emergency Repair Disk. If you do not have an Emergency Repair Disk, contact your technical support group.

The number may be one character too long, may not give accurate search results. It's usually 0x followed by 8 alphanumeric characters.

Try to type net stop wuaserv on command and then hit enter. After that, try to type ren c:\windows\softwaredistributionsoftwaredistribution.old and then hit enter.

Little more detail would help ... What backup program are you using and a screen shot of error message?

Could it be that the program needs updating to properly run on Win10? Following problems posted on Forums shows Win10 started out pretty good but some programs get messed with by the Win10 Upgrades and ensuing updates to them.

Good point. I've also had another problem crop up that precludes a full backup. I let my Veritas maintenance contract lapse and now am struggling to get it renewed through a re-seller (another nightmare story). If successful hopefully an upgrade to version 16 will help.
