    If yours is totally clean then of course my comment about conflicting software doesn't apply in your case. But yours isn't totally clean...
    The two things I installed right before I noticed this again
    - and manufacturer's and hardware utility programs do seem to be those that cause problems for some people.

    Bear in mind that when an OS changes, and doesn't maintain strict backwards compatibility, other programs may have to be updated. MS can't test all the 100s of 1000s of programs... but that leaves us poor so-and-so's who try to help people picking up the pieces, and the users frustrated.

    See if you have problems in Safe Mode- after a clean boot - if you stop those programs and everything related to them (services, drivers...) running - uninstall those progs...

    Absolutely makes sense and good ideas. And as you say, in the early stage of OS release we are a bit like test bunny's.

    If the issue persists following the icon cache rebuild I'll see if I can narrow down a particular program.
