Can't arrange folders by date

This seems like an easy one at first but not for me.
I get play memories to download my photo's from my camera to the computer and it stores them all in a folder called camera photos. When looking at the sperate folders arranged by the date they are all out of order. I have gone to sort by and tried by date, date created, date modified and so on but the folders will not go in the order I want them. Example: 20 jan 2016...20 feb 2016....19 may 2017....23 june 2017 and so on..

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I was just wondering why its starts with say wed 12 April 2017 then march then April again? Shouldn't all the dates with April in them be together so it's in sequence like March, April, May and so on if they are the same year?

When I really need folders or file names to be in date order (eg. my backups) I give them names including the date that will the suit windows' sort order. Year first, them Month (in figures) then Day: yyyy-mm-dd. Does 'PlayMemories Home' have an option to choose the format of the folder names?

I can’t arrange the folders at all. When I click “sort by” no sorting options appear. Does anyone know what to do. Pls help

I think the main problem is in Windows there's not enough SORT subsections i.e if you try sorting by DATE -- what about the files within the folders - or folders within folders i.e sub / lowerlevel folders. (Beware also date format can vary in different parts of the world too).

Then do you want date folder was created or date anything in it was modified.

It's actually a complex process'

What you need is some sort of file explorer utility that gives more options.

For example here I'm using Dolphin (a file explorer manager in most Linux distros with the KDE / Plasma GUI) and the options here give what I think you want.



Look for some windows alternative file manager / explorer which can do similar.

A quick way in Windows though is say to use filezilla (you don't need to connect to a remote server) and this will display folders in date order correctly

Here's an example (I'm on a Linux box so Windows is the remote connection (2nd pane on right of screen)
It's identical in Windows and filezilla is a free download -- it's intended really for file transfers but there's no reason why you shouldn't use it for quick file display etc. (Also can display long path and file names which file explorer fails when > 266 chars).
