Windows 10 File Explorer opens slow

This was few months ago, don't mind the text in the video, this was from another issue.

    And this is now:

You definitely can see the difference, the os is installed on a 250gb Samsung SSD. Sometimes I don't understand windows 10...
Why all of a sudden it is slow to open what could have caused this?
It's the same issue with documents, this pc shortcuts on desktop.

I did a clean install of windows and the problem remained the same.

    Windows version 1511(10586.873)

    hai.
    - is your SSD in good health?
    - does this problem happen after updating your machine?
    - ever consider updating to creators update to test your luck there?

-How do I check my SSD health?
    -Before and after
-Done that, problem remained the same plus horrible for gaming performance...
Right now planning to do third different reinstall of windows...
Edit: lol apparently with build 10240 can't even install graphics drivers, going to do 4th install, God wish me luck...
Also when I did "clean" install I didn't format "System reserved" partition (500mb) maybe it had some bad files that carried over to the next install, is it possible? I did format main ssd though.

Sorry to dig up this thread but I'm having the exact same issue. Is not a super slow delay but it is a delay I think it was not there before. I recently performed a clean install. I just deleted all the partitions on the disk (no slow format since it is a SSD).

    This are my specs:

    MB: MSI Z97 GAMING 3 (MS-7918)
    CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K 4.00GHz
    RAM: 16GB (2xG Skill F3-2400C10-8GTX)
    SSD: WD Blue
    OS: Windows 10 Pro

I've tried with a clean startup and it's still there. Safe mode doesn't seem to have that issue.

One of the first things I did with the new system was disable some services, tried to optimize the system for the SSD, created a couple of shortcuts in the context menu...

I think maybe I did something that caused the issue, but I've looking for a while and nothing seems to work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I had the same problem with 2 machines, tried every "fix' there is, nothing worked. Then performed Reset PC on both. All good for a few days, then slow again. Went back to an earlier image of Reflect & no problem since. BTW, both machines were upgrades from Windows 7.

I suspect it was a Defender update that corrupted something. By going back to an earlier Reflect image, the "bad Defender update" was skipped over for the latest update. I believe this to be true because a Defender update also "killed" an older version of Excel.

If you don't have a backup image, the only solution remaining is a fresh install. Like the Excel problem, this issue seems to be with 64-bit only.

Can't I turn off defender or something to check it?

Would a repair install work? Rather than a fresh install?

    Thanks.

I performed an in place upgrade and it fixed it. Then I went on disabling some services and some stuff and all good. But then the error came back. I'm thinking maybe it is an update...

    I'll keep looking into it.

    EDIT

Have yet to check it, but could it be KB4100347? The Intel Spectre patch...

Reports are circulating that the latest round of Spectre and LTF1 patches issued this week are causing slowdowns on some PCs, especially those with older CPUs where Steve Gibson's InSpectre utility reports "Slower" performance. For example, I've noticed sluggishness on my Lenovo T520 and X220 Tablet PCs (both have Ivy Bridge CPUs) since these patches were applied.

PS: Turns out the preceding screencap is the .7 version of InSpectre, and there's a .8 version out now. It's what you want (and what you will get, if you follow the preceding link at grc.com). Here's what the .8 version output looks like, with my apologies:

So there's no solution to have both the fix and prevent the slowdown, right? Maybe in the future?

AFAIK, if you install the microcode you have to live with the slowdown on processors where InSpectre reports "SLOWER" performance. I've not read or heard of any workarounds to let you obtain the security coverage without taking a performance hit, where that applies. Sorry 'bout that!
