I'm gonna have to boot a system to Kyhi's rescue media to help you locate some things, so please give me a few.

Sorry, it's gonna take me a little longer than expected. MS, in their infinite wisdom, have updates installing upon shutdown.......

    Check hard drive health:

In Kyhi's rescue environment, open File Manager (the yellow folder icon in the taskbar).
    Go to This PC.
    Select Boot (X:)
    Select Program Files
    Select speccy folder
    Run SPECCY.EXE

In Speccy, click Storage on the left.
Look at the right panel, scroll down for S.M.A.R.T. status for each drive.
Status should be "GOOD". If it's "WARNING" then we know we have a problem.

Please advise results for this before doing anything else.

As an aside ...how on earth do I get my win 10 license key in case I have to wipe everything? In the past, I have used license extracting software that I downloaded but my computer wont load any new programs so it is kind of an issue how to do this. It was a free upgrade from windows 7

I just did a bit of googling and tried linking the activation to my MS account on the settings page - settings page which I can access - but it pops up a blank screen that then disappears)
    Hi Squibbler,

No need to worry about an activation key. Once you activated the upgrade it was essentially locked in with Microsoft.

Thanks TC. I finally got it going too.
If the HDD health checks out, CHKDSK is next.
Any idea how we approach imaging a RAID0 if one of the drives is failing?

I was thinking maybe to un-RAID0 them, back to a single, but.........

How do I revert from using RAID0 to normal HDD use? - Storage
