That is just crazy. Updates are what protect you from malware. They patch Windows so you do not get infected.

Which just isn't going to do what you would like if you install the Creator's upgrade, 'cos MS will deliver what it deems 'critical' updates.

Oh, but then of course you haven't got the Creator's upgrade...

Set up your back up regimen which I'm sure you have.

Go to ninite.com and download the programs you use the most.

The first thing I do is create my first disk image. Protection against many forms of disaster, including self-inflicted.

E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot disk + external storage for disk images.

    Against ransomware etc:
Cryptoprevent, Cybereason Ransomfree, Bitdefender Anti-Ransomware (all free)

Browser add-ons such as WOT indicate site trustworthiness. (Edge extensions are very limited - from Store only).
You might want to read this about WOT. I used to use it a lot until I read that.

I use to believe that. I also have a cure for malware. Actually to be honest W10 is not secure at all even with updates. This is only my opinion.

    - which is why I mentioned those. Plus disk imaging when all else fails to restore an infected/corrupted/broken system.

When I clean installed Windows 10 creators update I installed the drivers (from a disk) first then my programs with Norton & MBAM first, then my files.

Yes, the same applies to me but, sometimes I visit their site too to get another point of view, of course after I visited unmaskparasites.com and sitecheck.sucuri.net (if you have more/better sites, every advice is welcome).

EDIT: by the way, I use Aomei Backupper Free for imaging, Avast Free, Malwarebytes Anti-rootkit and Anti-malware.
