I won't be spending any more time on it. It is what it is. I also won't be running the Education Edition any time soon either.

Yeah, you actually talked me out of installing mine on my main machine. That said, since I've got to do a clean install on my old 2013 Asus laptop, I may put it there for "educational" purposes :)

    Thanks,

    And good luck.

The options locked out aren't really a big deal, just customization stuff etc. And the ones greyed out, I believe are all set to off. I originally ran Education because it had the Official Windows To Go utility in it, and no Cortana. Windows To Go is in Pro now too, and they added Cortana back in Education. No real reason for me to run it now. I just wanted to see if those locked out options were now available again. They were still locked out so I just went back to Pro with a key change.

What forum is this? (Pro Edition)

Hi, I created an account just to help other clueless user who also got confused by MS decision about Win 10 Edu and Spotlight.

I have just upgraded to fall creator update (build 1709) and voila the Spotlight option is gone and I got the dreaded "Some Settings Are Managed By Your Organization” message in the lock screen settings. Confimred on two separate devices running Windows 10 Education edition.

No, neither Group Policy nor Registry hacks is going to fix this: apparently it's hard linked to the Windows edition, and for some obscure reason they decided to make Spotlight not available in Windows 10 Education regardless of the organization settings on build 1709.
I changed my activation key to Pro edition, restart the settings app and the spotlight option is there.

I've pretty well come to the same conclusion. It's by design that they are locked out. I tried to get a confirmation and or an explanation by asking why on Microsoft's private Yammer group. It fell on deaf ears.

I dont know who needs to hear this but i figured out a Solid solution to this:
Control Panel>System> (Side Panel) Advanced System Settings> Under Computer Name, Click "Change" if it says Workgroup, Just create a new Workgroup (type anything besides Workgroup) and the Error goes away instantly no more restrictions, i tested this on a fresh installation. Cheers~!

I change my workgroup name on a clean install. As far as I know it makes no difference for me, the settings I listed early in this thread stay locked out.
I'll try and double check it latter on today but one of the first things I do on a clean install is change my workgroup name. I do it while changing the Computer Name.

I just switched from Enterprise to Education via change product code. The "Some settings" message was in all the places I posted in my first post. My workgroup had already been changed to ALPHANUMERIC. I chnaged it to something else anyway but it made no difference. Even changed it a second time, no difference. Yeah, at this point I doubt Microsoft will ever fix / change this.

Switched to Pro for Workstations and all is fine again. It looks like they just didn't set it up correctly for a stand alone one user setup? Not a big deal really for me, I can use any edition I want. I only happened on this while giving Education a test run look see.
