    Alternate data streams?

OK, I finally started migrating stuff from my older PC ( running Win10 ), which has been terrible lately, to my newer one ( running Win 8.1 ).

My crossover ethernet cable hasnt arrived yet, but the situation has been becoming dire ( the old PC reboots and gets blank screens for hours - nasty video driver situation - wont go into it here - then today it graced me with coming back up to allow me to do some of this. My home business has been down all day because of that mess. ) , so I started downloading programs on the new one, and copying data to an 8GB SD USB card, and moving it to the new one that way. One big achievement today, was moving my Seamonkey profile, so at LEAST the passwords are all migrated.

But I just ran into a kink when trying to copy documents, like doc files, pdf, xls and odt ( Open Office ) to the SD card. It balked and said alternate data streams, and wont work.

What the heck is that, and how can I overcome THAT obstacle now, please?

Alternate datastreams are NTFS objects used to hold things like metadata. If your SD card is not formatted NTFS (It probably isn't by default) then you won't be able to copy files with these datastreams. The solution is to format your SD card as NTFS.
