I have an 2007-ish laptop (dualcore 1.5Ghz, 2GB ram, integrated intel gfx) and it is really sluggish with 8, 8.1 and 10. I blame the metro interface. You might see a difference with dedicated rather than integrated graphics, but for more efficient use I'd prefer something alot simpler. I have Linux Mint xfce on my old laptop which works well and is stable.

I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell Optiplex 945 Microtower:

    1.86 Ghz Intel Core 2Duo
    5 GB RAM
    Stock graphics.

It works but it's not pretty. Once I can get a Core2Quad in it and a half decent graphics card, I think it will work just as good as something thats a few years old.

You can get the 775 Intel Core 2 Quad Core if your motherboard was made to use it. I have a Lenovo M58P 1637 with a Quad core, but the issue is that it will run hotter than it does with a Dual Core, even with the upgraded heatsink with fan.

I went on the Dell forums and many people have upgraded to a C2Q as long as it's a Kentsfield and its a 1066 bus speed.

I came back to this old thread as I have just finished Upgrading a Dell Vostro 1510 from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Win7 then to 64-bit Win10 Home. The only issue with it occurred with Win7 and continued with Win10, couldn't get drivers for the Mass Storage Controller. Turned out it was for the ExpressCard port, don't know if they are still in use so no problem, just Disabled it in the BIOS and in Device Manager.
Hi Berton, I want to upgrade my Dell Vostro 1510 with Windows 10, but got to know that Windows 10 is not compatible with thi smodel. Can you help install in my laptop as well. Thank you

I suggest that you search the Dell Forums to see if there is any guidance from other users of your model. If there's nothing there then try starting a thread there to ask.

    Hi,
Replace the ssd or hdd and clean install 10 on the new.
    If it works it's compatible.

Seems to be from around 2008.

    Look here:
    https://www.dell.com/support/home/en...o-1510/drivers
32 bit drivers for XP and Vista - so 64 bit O/S may not run.

    Then see:
    https://www.dell.com/support/home/en...o-1510/drivers
    Support for Windows 10

If you have already upgraded to Windows 10 but don't see Windows 10 in the list of supported operating systems above, Dell has not provided Windows 10 drivers for your system.

But here's one for sale with Win 10:

    Hi,
I have 250 HDD. Are you suggesting to replace the entire HDD with SSD and then installing Win 10?
    Thank you

I got a couple of Dell Vostro 1000's.laptops I replaced the HDD with an SSD, I installed 4GB of RAM. The Dell site only has drivers for 32 bit Vista as the latest OS, But I installed Windows 10 20H2 64 bit, also installed 32 bit with same results. Everything works, but the ATI/AMD Video chip drivers don't allow the laptop to wake from sleep, you have to power it off and on again. I tried newer drivers, but that doesn't work for sleep either, but it allows you to adjusts the resolution to fit the screen. You also cannot install the ATI Catalyst Control Center or it will Blue Screen. Other then that, it works fine all other devices work well, just a slow processor.
