Start_JumpListItems should be there, JumpListItems_Maximum needs to be manually added as a DWORD.
Okay, cool. Thanks for the info. :)

    Worked for me, but...

Thanks so much - this worked for me but to my surprise not even Start_JumpListItems was present in
    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\

I now just created the JumpListItems_Maximum Dword entry and gave it a decimal value of 20 and it worked immediately (no restart required).
    Much appreciated
I am really puzzled how Microsoft could remove this (maybe similar thought process which led to the "recent folders" removal from quick access)

I've posted a Reg file that will add Recent Folders to your Navigation Pane:

Add Recent Folders and/or Links/Favorites to Navigation Pane

I also do not have either of those entries in the registry. I currently can also only pin 12 folders/drives and it shows no recent entries at all. I'm not really interested in what shows under recent but would sure like to be able to put more than 12 pinned items in there. Here's my list

Follow the instructions above and you'll be able to pin as many items as your little heart desires.

You mean from Wylerma adding just JumpListItems_Maximum Dword or do they both need to be in there? (I have neither) I'm still a little confused. Is JumpListItems_Maximum Dword referring to the number of pinned items or Recent Items? Pinned items is what I want more of.

Add both and play with the numbers until you get the balance you want.

Does this work independently from what goes into the Quick Access?

The pinned items in File Explorer are common to both Quick Access and the File Explorer Jump Lists.

Also, I find having just JumpListItems_Maximum without Start_JumpListItems gives the most flexibility. JLI_M imposes a maximum number of entries (& actually includes the Recent''& 'Pinned' headers toward the total count) but it can be any combination of pinned or recent.
