    Put image on desktop

I'd like to place an image on the desktop. Not an Icon, not the background, just an image. Like a gadget but inactive. Maybe in a window if the window has no header or borders. Oversized icon?

    This has come up before...
How can I put a small image on my desktop?
    ...not many answers though.

Ok. Thanks anyway. It occurred to me to insert the image to a copy of the desktop wallpaper and use that. Not real flexible but could help.

If you have the free FastStone Image viewer, open the folder with a desired picture using Browse in the context menu. Select a picture.
Then right click on it, select Wallpaper and Set wallpaper anywhere. Then you can resize and position a small image.

A splendid image handler, thanks for the tip. It doesn't seem to do exactly what I want, which is to overlay an image on my present wallpaper but it will create a small wallpaper image and place it anywhere on the desktop background. I didn't see an easy way to reverse the process, but not too hard to reset my regular wallpaper via explorer. I'll keep it around and compare it with Irfan view.
