    Dear fellow victims,

Just installed the updates rolled out for Patch Tuesday this month. The VSS/FilterManger-problem is NOT resolved after updating. Please check and confirm. Ridiculous that MS keeps completely silent about this ugly bug. Guess we will have to do without reliable backup facilities in Windows 10 for a long time to come. It makes me very angry.

    Greetz!

Yea, it is ... I just did a clean install of Win 10 Pro x64 with the latest updates. My fix in this thread does get rid of the error.

So the only solution is a clean install? That's all what MS has to offer its users? What a blamage

Same, new updates make no difference. Hopefully MS will sort this before i actually need to use a restore point.

No a clean install won't fix the issue... I was just saying that the event id 4 'wcifs' issue is still present in a clean/updated install.

Note: Once you've create a restore point and got the event id4 'wcifs' ... the only way I've found to get rid of it, is to use the commands I posted in this thread. At least then you can create a restore and reboot without the event id 4 'wcifs' showing up. However, just fixing the event id 4 'wcifs' issue does not mean that system restore will actually work

Ah, that trick so the situation is even worse: still no way back after 5 weeks.

Today, for the first time since weeks the Get Office app got updated. Guess what? Still no resolve for wcifs/VSS/FilterManager errors Chances might be we never get rid of it anymore, maybe it's not a bug but a feature. :-(

    Hi!

I actually did an interesting experiment last weekend. I switched on a laptop that wasn't on since the first week of February this year (want to do a clean install on that one after the April update). It installed the March patches AND the last week released Get Office app. Still, the Filter Manager-errors immidiatly appeared after a required reboot and creating a restore point. So I guess the cause might not even be Get Office, but the app installation procedure in general. I have a strong feeling we just have to say goodbye to System Restore and VSS since MS doesn't do anything about it. Also - besides massive amounts of complaints on forums everywhere - it's not really presented in the news. So yeah...

Hi Win10use. According to post #196 in System Restore fails: AppxStaging %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApp 0x80070091, MS is working on fixing this. My thinking is that VSS is too important to kick to the curb.
