Actually, biggest W10 selling point is interoperability with various devices and planed ability to run same Apps on all of them.
Wasn't that an aspect of Windows 8 - one Windows across all devices? Or does Windows 10's cross-platform use differ?

Yes it's supposed together with windows on portable devices to be more compatible across those platforms and same Apps to work on all of them. Well that's in theory anyway, we'll see how successful it will be. Much of it depends on App developers and store.

I wonder how many people are asking the same question. In 1995 in my office which was on a network, I was running DOS, Win 3.1, and Zenix. It has only been a little over a year that I jumped from XP to 7! I have been helping friends who have either upgraded to 8 or purchased HW with it "make 8.1 look like 7," something which I have pretty much now got down to a science...save for the fact that doing it seem absurd. While I agree 8.1 is a bit faster, the ability to revert easily to a sort of factory reset is good, and the storage space...I really do not like 7. I have been playing with win 10 TP and don't particularly like it either. In the back of my mind I hear my brother laughing saying you should have bought a Mac, never crashes, never freezes...so I don't know what I am going to do?!

Windows 7 generally doesn't crash, either - at least in my years of using it it has been mostly solid (cept when completely running out of RAM and HDD resources, which has caused me a BSOD). I hope Windows 10 will also be sturdy.

Well...I have just built 3 PC with same MB. Found out win 7 disk OEM and can't use. Meanwhile...am playing with 10 TP on another PC. Thought I would buy 3 7 keys...sysprep image with all my tweeks/software, etc., deploy to 3 Pcs

Then thought...why do all that...then upgrade to 10 only to have to create an image with 10 and redeploy? Why not simply use the TP now...and hope there is someway to use it without having to do a fresh install when official iso comes out. Anway...not sure what to do...timewise and cost effective.

You can get copies of Win8.1 and upgrade from there or just use the TP and stay in the insider program for a while and see what the price of WIn10 will be from online vendors like NewEgg. I think they have it on their site for pre-order now.

Well, a full retail version Newegg is selling for $199 (Pro) I would never make the mistake of buying the cheaper OEM. I have 3 PCs...that is $600...a bit steep if you ask me...the one problem with building your own PC. Additionally, my wife has no experience with 8.1. It took her awhile to get used to 7. I am thinking for what she does, I should simply stick Linux on hers! All she is word processing and browsing! I am beginning to wonder myself. I am no longer in medical practice. My present projects could probably be done using open source software in Linux...I have been using MS products for so long though it is hard to think about giving them up. I am building a different I7 proc PC strictly for Phot/Video editing and to run a flight sim. I don't think Adobe runs on Linux!

I have to laugh because as a rather curious individual, I have soured the net and learned a bit...although I don' understand all of the technical details...about how people are activating windows...very cleaver actually....tricking it to reactivate every day, turning off the clock (I think,) "loaders" if they don't give you malware or viruses...the very process of getting a hold of the suff will! :-) I do see why people are doing it. The average person in the US is broke! A gamer...why should he spend a fortune on an OS when that money could be put in HW and games :-) (I ran into this guy at Microcenter who calls gaming "{a blight on the nation." I had to laugh. I remember when I was losing quarters playing Space Invaders.
