File Explorer is more than just a file manager, it also controls the memory of where a window was/is, but it will only work if the 3rd party program uses windows API's. With your problem of Firefox I don't have it, whether I open it change size/placement, minimize, maximize, return-- it always goes to last size and place.
Try to un-maximize Firefox and stretch it all the way to the left edge of the screen, also stretch it vertically, top to bottom, so that it takes up 75% of the left portion of the screen. Then maximize it and again un-maximize. Window doesn't change size or position just slightly from the edges of the screen? Same thing also happens when I open up a Youtube video fullscreen and go out of fullscreen while having the Firefox window un-maximized.

Maybe I should do a clean install of Windows 10 then, maybe the problem is some conflict that arose during upgrade or something...

A clean install if you are still on the upgrade is always recommended, but that shouldn't be the problem. Give Ccleaner a shot. Reboot after cleaning and then try window resizing.

Hi everyone I'm new around here. I registered just to say to @Edwin that I'm not happy with you, not one bit. You lied to me, you lied straight to my face. I never thought someone would lie on the internet, but it did happen. I read your comment and immediately I join the Windows Insider program just to get the latest build and stop my windows from jumping all over the place. Now I'm on build 10547, typing this inside Firefox window which takes up 75% of my screen, just the way I like it. Guess what happens if I maximize this Firefox window and then I un-maximize it again? Does it go back to its old position and does it have the same same 75% size? No, of course not, why would it, it jumps a bit off of the edge of the screen and changes window size. Same thing happens if I go full screen on a YT video and then go back out of full screen.

Now @Edwin, explain yourself please. Is the same not happening to you? Why is my build special then? I'm holding you personally responsible and until my Windows 10 is fixed, you will be haunted by the screams of a mad man whos OCD and the desire to have application windows maintain size and position are making him, well they're making him scream. Do you really want that on your conscience?

Ok I cleaned everything with Ccleaner, but the problem is still there. I made a video of the problem. Check a bit further down below my reply to @Edwin.

, 2 can play this game, here's my video:

Firefox jumped only a little bit from the edges of the screen on this video, but most of the time it's more. I also tried it with Windows Explorer not sure what is going on there, but it's horrible, horrible. I miss Windows 8.1, I can still remember how stable window management was on it.

@tector sorry to hear Ccleaner didn't fix it, I really thought maybe the problem was a corruption in the size/location cache. After seeing your vid, I can see why it nerves you so though.

Thank you for helping out, I can still use the system but I gotta say that I much rather just boot up Mint where windows in XFCE stay in place, no matter what I do, . I'm also thinking about going back to Windows 8.1. I'm not sure how much reinstall of Windows 10 would help here, because like you said it should work like this.... but I'll look into reinstalling Windows 10, just to testing things out.

Guys, I think I found something close to a solution, at least for me. What I did is I completely disabled Snap. In my defense I did try disabling the window resizing sub-options in the Snap category, but I don't think I tried to just completely disable Snap, I feel kinda stupid now. Here's a video of how it works now.

Notice that now the window stays in place during maximize, un-maximize. Every application now stays in place, even Firefox after exiting fullscreen videos on youtube. The only problem that's left now is that the window still moves a little to the right after closing and launching the application. You can see that behavior on this new video. Although there's a simple fix for this, don't close applications. Anyway, if anybody is having this problem, try to completely disable Snap, if you haven't already, and see if that helps. Also notice that I'm on the latest build, maybe that helps the situation.

Well then do so, no one is forcing you to keep Windows 10.

See my reply just before yours, I think I found a way of making it work properly. Windows 10 will probably survive.
